Starting the $500K Journey

My first post on why this blog exists, what the goal is, and how the process starts.

Introduction

I figured I would start my first post off with an inspiring Benjamin Franklin quote about writing. However, when I looked it up, the only quote was: “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” I was quickly humbled. I have yet to write something worth anyone’s time, besides my moms, and I do not believe I have done anything worth writing about. So, thanks for those words of encouragement, Mr. Franklin!

My name is Ellie Bell. Along with all the very interesting information I could throw at you about myself, much like recipe writers love to do, I am an aspiring <enter fancy, less conceited name here for “rich person”>. I have made a goal for myself: Make $500,000 outside of my full-time job by the time I turn 30. That’s 8 years from now. My progress: $0. I know it’s a big goal, and I wanted it to feel unrealistic because if it seemed tamable, then I wouldn’t try so hard.

In Niccolò Machiavelli’s The Prince, he mentions that a person must aim at greatness to achieve something good, and at perfection to achieve something great. He compares this thinking to an archer who knows the limitations of his bow so, therefore, aims higher to hit targets that are far away. That’s my mindset going into this goal.

You may be wondering what my secret is to reach $500,000 in 8 years! You and I both. My mindset right now is to work at it mercifully and something has to blossom, even if it’s just some great stories. “Great stories don’t pay the bills,” try telling that to J. K. Rowling.

My Strategy

I have been devoting the first 90 minutes of my day to this goal. That’s a lie… I give 5 minutes to say good morning to my dog, and THEN I start my 90 minute timer. So far I have found 20 potential income stream methods. I am now in the process of finding surface level information on those tactics to succeed in those methods. This will help me narrow it down to one method that I want to focus on for a month. After that month, I will re-evaluate and either change my strategy, change methods, or stick to what I’m doing.

My Reason

This process is so important to me because, in a way I have always struggled to explain, I cannot fathom the idea of being a prisoner to a 9-5 for the rest of my life. I hope that this journey will lead me to ways I can become financially free and be able to be a great, present mother to my future children. And, of course, be able to travel the world!

I decided to start this blog because I want it to hold me accountable in documenting this process. It will also be super cool (mostly cringe) to look back in a few years and see where I was today. So to my audience (my mom) I hope you will enjoy going through this journey with me for the next 8+ years.

Adios!
